MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – Thursday on News13 Now, Brandon Herring spoke to Jennifer Giering and Mike Kelley about Fast Track for Heroes. Giering is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Senior Director of Operations and Director of Business and State Engagement for Hiring our Heroes – a U.S. Chamber of Commerce initiative. Kelley is USAA’s Assistant Vice President Of Military Advocacy. USAA is a major sponsor of Fast Track.
The following is a press release from the day the U.S. Chamber launched Fast Track for Heroes earlier in September:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes today unveiled the newest phase of Fast Track, a geographic tool to help transitioning service members make informed decisions about their future. Fast Track presents comprehensive guides to fast-growing industries encouraging service members to consider industries with in-demand jobs that match their interests, experience, and skills. Fast Track then integrates live job feeds from the National Labor Exchange to a heat map highlighting the 100 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) with the fastest growing job markets.
“Many veterans struggle with their transition because they are uncertain of good civilian job opportunities or how their military skills may be useful for those opportunities,” said Eric Eversole, vice president at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and president of Hiring Our Heroes. “This tool helps them understand what they learned in the military, what skills or training they still need, and what paths to success in a growing industry look like.”
With more fast-growing industries on the way, this site currently features the following tracks:
  • Entertainment and Media – Powered by Got Your 6
  • Financial Services –Powered by Capital One Financial Corporation
  • Insurance – Powered by USAA
  • Oil and Gas – Powered by BP America
  • Manufacturing – Powered by GE
  • Trucking – Powered by FASTPORT
In addition to providing information on industries and nearly four million job postings, Fast Track includes guidance about degrees, certificates, and licenses as well as ways to gain relevant training while still in the military.
“We want all companies to succeed in their efforts to recruit, hire, and retain veteran talent. However, companies have to sell their industry to veterans to help them better understand why their field creates long-term economic opportunities,” Eversole stated. “Fast Track does that by showcasing industries and the great opportunities that exist in those industries.”
